Technical Requirements

DNASTAR Cloud

Please see the technical requirements listed below for each DNASTAR Cloud offering, as well as recommended workflows for DNASTAR Cloud Desktop and DNASTAR Cloud Assemblies based on virtual hardware configurations.

DNASTAR Cloud Desktop

Technical Requirements

  • Internet Connection
  • Firefox or Google Chrome as your browser
  • Recommended download speed of 10Mb/second
  • Recommended upload speed of 2Mb/second

DNASTAR Cloud Desktop offers three sizes of virtual machines. The size you need depends upon the types of projects you plan to do. See below for recommended project types and cost estimates for each virtual hardware configuration. Note that depending on how your license is set up, you may have access to multiple virtual desktop types on the DNASTAR Cloud.

Virtual Small Machine

  • Cloning and primer design
  • Sanger sequence assembly
  • Multiple sequence alignment and phylogenetic analysis
  • Charges are approximately $0.38/hour, in addition to software licensing costs

Virtual Medium Machine

  • Reference-guided alignment of exomes and transcriptomes/RNA-Seq
  • Reference-guided and de novo assembly of genomes less than 1 Gbp in length (for example, Escherichia coli)
  • ChIP-Seq and miRNA alignment and analysis
  • Visualization and analysis of genome assemblies
  • Charges are approximately $1.50/hour, in addition to software licensing costs

Virtual Large Machine

  • Reference-guided alignments of genomes greater than 1 Gbp in length
  • De novo assembly of genomes and transcriptomes
  • Charges are approximately $4.50/hour, in addition to software licensing costs

DNASTAR Cloud Assemblies

Technical Requirements

  • SeqMan NGen (part of Lasergene Genomics Suite) installed on Windows or Macintosh
  • Internet Connection
  • Recommended download speed of 10Mb/second
  • Recommended upload speed of 2Mb/second

DNASTAR Cloud Assemblies offers two sizes of virtual machines. The size you need depends upon the types of projects you plan to do. See below for recommended project types for each virtual hardware configuration.

Virtual Medium Machine

  • Reference-guided alignment of exomes and transcriptomes/RNA-Seq
  • Reference-guided and de novo assembly of genomes less than 1 Gbp in length (for example, Escherichia coli)
  • ChIP-Seq and miRNA alignment and analysis
  • Visualization and analysis of genome assemblies

Virtual Large Machine

  • Reference-guided alignments of genomes greater than 1 Gbp in length
  • De novo assembly of genomes and transcriptomes

DNASTAR Cloud Data Drive

Technical Requirements

  • Windows XP SP3 (32-bit only), Windows 7 or higher
  • Mac OS X 10.7, 10.8, or 10.9
  • Internet Connection
  • Recommended download speed of 10Mb/second
  • Recommended upload speed of 2Mb/second

Please note: The DNASTAR Data Drive has been configured to provide you with the fastest possible data transfer. When using the DNASTAR Data Drive to transfer large files (such as data supporting a whole human genome sequencing project) you or others in your organization may experience a temporary Internet slowdown. We suggest that data transfer for large projects be performed at off-peak times to minimize the possibility of disruption.
