» Attempts to create or open an RNA-Seq or CNV project result in an error message
Date: 12/11/13
Version Affected: 11.1 and 11.2 Version Fixed: 11.2.2
Title: Attempts to create or open an RNA-Seq or CNV project result in an error message
Issue: The error message states that the file is “not a QSeq file” or is “corrupt,” or (alternatively) ends with the phrase “Invalid mapped read count.” However, the same project can be easily created or opened in ArrayStar 11.0 and earlier.
Resolution: This issue occurs when all of the following are true:

     • The ArrayStar version number is 11.1 or 11.2.

     • The ArrayStar project type is RNA-Seq or CNV.

     • The ArrayStar normalization method is something other than None or RPK.

     • The Windows “Numbers” settings specify certain types of international number separators.

DNASTAR software uses the separators commonly used in English-speaking and Asian countries. The thousands separator is a comma (,) and the decimal separator is a period/dot/full stop (.) In most other countries, including nearly all European countries, the thousands separator is a space ( ) or period/dot/full stop (.), and the decimal separator is a comma (,).

When the above-listed combination of choices/settings are used, ArrayStar may treat a 4-6 digit number as a 1-3 digit number with 3 places after the decimal. The unexpected results cause ArrayStar to return an error message.

This issue will be resolved with the release of the ArrayStar 11.2.2 patch. After 11.2.2 is released, this Product Notification will be updated to direct you to download and install the latest version of the software.

Prior to the 11.2.2 release, you can fix the issue by changing your number format settings in Windows. There is no need to change your location or language settings.

     1. Press the Windows Start button, then navigate to the Control Panel.

     2. In the Region and Language group, choose Change the date, time, or number format.

     3. Click Additional Settings.

     4. In the Numbers tab of the ensuing dialog, change the Decimal symbol to a period (.) and the Digit grouping symbol to a comma (,).

     5. Save your changes and exit from the dialogs.
