Line Graphs

ArrayStar’s Line Graph view plots the expression levels for selected genes over each experiment in your project, and connects the data points with a line so that expression levels are shown relative to one another across the group of experiments. Expression levels are plotted vertically along the Y-axis, while the X-axis position for each point is determined by the experiment to which it belongs. Advantages to this system are:

  • Provides an easy visual indication of expression level changes over the course of the experiment
  • Provides a quick visualization of relative changes of different genes over the course of the experiment

  • A.        Gene Expression Highlight

The time series example below illustrates that selection of any one specific gene with the Line Graph reveals gene ontology information, the name of the gene, the public identification number and its symbol.  Placing the cursor on any specific day for the gene also reveals the expression level.

Multiple genes within the Line Graph can also be selected by clicking on the clicking on a specific data point and dragging the cursor down to the data last data point wanted.

Edits can be made to the data by using a right-click anywhere within the graph. Edits that can be made include:

  • Editing of the gene notes
  • Removing the gene from the selection
  • Showing the gene table
  • Remembering the gene set
  • Copying the image

  • B.        Actions

In the lower right corner of the Info Pane the Actions section offers users quick guides and suggestions for follow-up steps. Actions available include:

  • Performing a hierarchial clustering with the selected genes
  • Performing a K-means clustering with the selected genes
  • Remembering the selection as a gene set
  • Showing the table of selected genes
