Company Profile

DNASTAR, Inc. is a global software company headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin USA that has been meeting the needs of life scientists for more than 30 years. From Agriculture to Zoology and from Australia to Zimbabwe, we help molecular biologists, geneticists, bioinformaticians, structural biologists, clinicians and many other scientists achieve their research objectives.

We were born out of the E. coli lab of Dr. Fred Blattner, Professor of Genetics at the University of Wisconsin, in 1984. Our early products reflected this background and association and we built a strong reputation during the Sanger sequencing years of providing outstanding desktop software for DNA and protein sequence assembly and analysis.

The sequencing world has gone through a dramatic revolution and so has DNASTAR. While we still see it as our mission to provide user-friendly desktop software tools for all life scientists, we’ve dramatically broadened our offering to meet evolving life science needs. We now offer products on desktop computers and on the DNASTAR Cloud and we’ve grown from supporting scientists working with E. coli to the world of human disease and beyond.

While we still support sequence assembly and analysis, we’ve expanded our product offering to support a broad range of next-gen sequencing applications and we have recently moved more fully into the structural biology realm with best-in-the-world software supporting structure prediction and analysis.

We are proud of our software, our innovation, our longevity, our global reach, our customer support, and many other facets of what we do. However, we are most proud of you and the work that you do with our tools. Our customers continue to do groundbreaking scientific work in a wide variety of fields. Our software is referenced in more peer reviewed journals than anyone offering similar products. That’s what keeps us going – you and your work.

We thank you for your past support, we congratulate you on your past accomplishments, and we look forward to being part of your future work as well. Let us know how we're doing. We encourage your comments and suggestions.  We can't wait to see what the next 30 years brings!
