Filtering Based on Gene Classification/Ontology

When doing Advanced Filtering, choose Gene Classification/Ontology from the left-most drop-down menu to search the selected gene annotation field for the term(s) selected in the Classification/Ontology field.

Start by selecting the desired gene annotation field from the right-most drop-down menu ("GO ID").

Make a selection from the center drop-down menu. Multiple search terms may be selected. Use Shift+click to select a range of terms and Ctrl+click to add single terms to the current selection.

If you selected GO ID from the right-hand menu, the drop-down menu in the center will be to the right of "Ontology," and will display the Gene Ontology hierarchy as a Gene Ontology Consortium tree. Only those terms (and their parent terms) actually contained within the current project will be displayed. In addition to individual expanded terms, entire branch nodes may be selected as valid search terms. However, note that if a branch node is selected, ArrayStar will not automatically search for the terms underneath it. To search for the child terms of a branch node, you must first expand the node and then select all of the terms you wish to search for.

If you selected anything else from the right-most menu, the drop-down menu in the center will be to the right of "Classification," and will display all possible values for that field based on the current project. These values will be displayed in a tree, grouped by common prefixes and displayed in alphabetical order. Only individual terms (not branch nodes) may be used as search terms.

Click the Search button to initiate a search. For information on how results are displayed, see Working with Advanced Filtering Search Results.

Note: You may also view and search Gene Ontology information in the Gene Ontology view.
