Collecting Features from a BLAST Search

SeqMan Pro enables you to collect features for sequences in your project through BLAST searching.

To use this feature, first select the range of sequence you wish to BLAST from the Alignment View. Then, select Net Search > BLAST Selection. After the search is complete, a Collect Features button will appear at the top of your BLAST results window:

Note: The Collect Features button will not be available if the sequence you selected to BLAST is already associated with trace or flowgram data.

Select from the list of your results the sequence from which you wish to import features. Then, click on the Collect Features button. You will first be prompted to save the selected sequence:

After the sequence is saved, all features within the matching portion of the alignment are added to the sequence you selected to BLAST, and the Feature Table is displayed.

If no features exist within the matching portion, a dialog will appear to inform you:

From the Features table, click on any row, then choose Contig > Strategy View. To see the newly-collected features, go to the Features from drop-down menu and select Consensus.

If you save and re-open the project at a later time, follow this procedure to see the collected features:

1)  Choose an individual contig from the Project window, then choose Contig > Strategy View.

2)  Select Features > Show Feature Table.

Note: Do not choose a scaffold from the Project window, then select Contig > Scaffold Strategy View. If you do so, the Feature Table will only show reference features.
