Heat Map Toolbar

From within the Heat Map view, the following tools are available:

Tool

Function

Select_button

The Select Data tool puts your cursor in selection mode, allowing you to select individual genes, or groups of genes on the Heat Map.

Click and drag to select a group of genes.

Ctrl+click and drag to add a group of genes to the current selection.

Shift+click to select the range of genes between the previous and current click.

Ctrl+shift+click to add the range of genes between the previous and current click to the existing selection.

Ctrl+click to select multiple genes individually, or to add genes individually to the current selection.

Zoom_in_button

The Zoom In tool puts your cursor into zoom-in mode.

Single clicking on the Heat Map will zoom-in for more detail.

Clicking and dragging the cursor while in zoom-in mode allows you to draw a box, specifying the particular area you want to zoom-in on.

Clicking on a node in the Gene Tree while in zoom-in mode will cause the Heat Map to zoom-in so that only the sub-tree you clicked on is displayed.

Zoom_out_button

The Zoom Out tool puts your cursor into zoom-out mode.

Single clicking on the Heat Map will zoom-out for less detail.

Clicking and dragging the cursor while in zoom-out mode allows you to draw a box, specifying the particular area you want to zoom-out on. The smaller the box is, the more you will zoom-out from the specified area.

fit to view

The Fit to View tool scales the size of the Heat Map so that all data are displayed within the visible window.

copy image

The Copy Image tool allows you to copy the graphical view so that you can paste it into another application, such as Word, PowerPoint, or Adobe Illustrator.

Note: In some applications, such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint, it may be necessary to select Edit > Paste Special then select Picture (Enhanced Metafile).

print_button

Use the Print tool to print the Heat Map.

print preview

Use the Print Preview tool view the Heat Map on your screen as it will appear on the printed page(s).

export gene set

Use the Export Selected Genes tool to export the currently selected genes as a tab-delimited text file (.txt).

store as gene set

Click the Remember Selection as a Set tool to create a new set from your current selection. All of the saved sets from your current project can be viewed in the Set List view.

remember clustering result button

Use the Remember Clustering Result tool to save the cluster set that is currently displayed in the Heat Map view. All of the saved clustering results from your current project can be viewed in the Clustering Result List view.

show_on_xaxis

Use the Show/Hide Experiment Tree tool to display/hide the Experiment Tree displayed on the horizontal axis. This tool is enabled only when the cluster experiments option is selected in the Clustering Parameters window.

show_on_yaxis

Use the Show/Hide Gene Tree tool to display/hide the Gene Tree displayed on the Y-Axis.

show gene names button

Use the Show/Hide Gene Names tool to display/hide the gene names displayed on the right side of the Heat Map.

Use the Display/Hide Grid Lines tool to display/hide the grid that separates individual genes on the Heat Map display. Depending on the size of your dataset, you may need to zoom in to view the grid.

Use the Show Trees as Equidistant/Distance Based tool to change between a distance-based, and an equidistant display of the trees on the X and Y axes.

Use the Heat Map Color Scale tool to specify the span of the color scale. Choose one of the following options from the dropdown list:

All Project Data: The color scale will use the entire range of signal values contained within your project.

Current Heat Map Data Points: The color scale will use only the range of signal values from the data currently displayed in the Heat Map.

Cutoff Data Points by Percentile: The color scale range will be limited by the percentage of data points specified in the Set Styles dialog.

Cutoff Data Points by Standard Deviation: The color scale range will be limited by the number of standard deviations specified in the Set Styles dialog.

Click the Per-Row Color Scale tool to turn on/off per row scaling.

hide_info_pane_button

Click the Show/Hide Info Pane tool to display/hide the Info Pane.
