Creating a Set

A set is a collection of items (e.g., genes, SNPs, IP-fragments, IP-peaks, exons or isoforms) that you can save, name, and annotate. All of the sets for a given project can be seen in the Set List.

You can create a new set in a variety of ways:

Check or select rows in a graphical view (see table below), or perform a search using the Quick Search Tool. Then choose Data > Remember Selected Genes/SNPs/etc. or right-click on the selection and choose the same command from the context menu.

After performing Advanced Filtering, click on the Select and Remember as a Set tool remember gene set.

If available, click on the Remember the selection as a gene/SNP/etc. set link in the Actions section of the Info Pane for a graphical view.

From any ArrayStar table, click the arrow to the right of the Select in All Views tool  and choose Select and Remember as a [Gene, Exon, etc.] Set. Options vary depending upon the table you are viewing.

Launch the Quick gene set creation dialog from within the Venn Diagrams Info Pane or the Experiment List.

Import a set from another ArrayStar project.

In the ensuing New Set dialog, enter a name for the set (required) and notes about it (optional). Then click OK.

If you kept the Open set list box checked the Set List view will open. You will see your new set at the bottom of the list.

The following table shows which sets can be created for different experiment types. Projects with multiple experiment types can access all set types available to any of the experiments in the project.
