The cursor may be moved by using the mouse, or by selecting one of several cursor placement commands from the menus, as described in the table below. Refer to the assay document header to learn the precise position of the cursor.

Task How To
Go to a numerical location on the sequence Choose Edit > Go to Location or press Ctrl/Cmd+J. Type the desired position or range into the box in the dialog. Inclusive ranges for the top strand are typed with the symbol > between the two positions (e.g., 2500 > 3000). To exclude a particular range, write the higher number first (e.g., 3000 > 2500) to highlight everything except for that range. GeneQuest accepts a comma (,) or two periods (..) in place of the greater-than symbol (>). Use the less-than symbol (<) to select ranges on the bottom strand. Click OK to move the pointer. If you entered a number that is outside the range of the sequence, GeneQuest will position the pointer at the end of the sequence.
Find a nucleotide sequence string Choose Edit > Find or press Ctrl/Cmd+F. Type a search string (e.g., gctttag) up to 256 characters in length into the Find box. Use the radio buttons to search Either Strand or only the Top Strand or Bottom Strand. Click Next or Previous to find the next/previous appearance of the search string in the sequence. Both options cause you to exit from the Find dialog and return to the Assay Document. The pointer will be positioned at the beginning of the sequence region that matches the search string. To continue jumping to the next candidate site of the same type in the highlighted range, select Edit > Find/Move Next. To move to the previous candidate site, select Edit > Find/Move Previous. Note: If the candidate start, donor or acceptor splice sites you initially locate are in the reverse strand, Find/Move Next moves the selection to the left and Find/Move Previous moves the selection to the right, consistent with the orientation of the reverse strand.
Find translation starts, donor splice sites or acceptor splice sites Use the Range selector to select a sequence range, then choose Edit > Move Selection or press Ctrl/Cmd+L. Specify whether you want to find a potential Translation Start (ATG), Acceptor Splice (AG) or Donor Splice (GT), then click Next or Previous to find the next/previous appearance of the search string in the sequence. Both options cause you to exit from the Find dialog and return to the Assay Document. The pointer will be positioned at the beginning of the sequence region that matches the search string. To continue jumping to the next candidate site of the same type in the highlighted range, select Edit > Find/Move Next. To move to the previous candidate site, select Edit > Find/Move Previous.
Highlight a region beginning with an acceptor splice and ending with a donor splice Use the Range selector to select a sequence range, then choose Edit > Move Selection or press Ctrl/Cmd+L. Select Acceptor Splice and click Next. Press Ctrl/Cmd+. until the left side of the highlighting is aligned with some method feature. Select Edit > Move Selection, choose Donor Splice, and click Previous. Press *Ctrl/Cmd+, repeatedly, until the right side of the highlighting is also aligned appropriately.
Remove a selection made using the Object selector Use Edit > Clear.
