ELECTRONIC LAB NOTEBOOK INTEGRATION

Seamlessly integrate SeqBuilder Pro with SciNote Electronic Lab Notebook software for enhanced collaboration and sequence insights. PRICING REQUEST FREE TRIAL

Electronic lab notebooks (ELNs) help research teams move beyond the limitations of paper notebooks by improving data organization, searchability, collaboration, and security. For labs managing complex workflows, ELNs can also support stronger traceability and more consistent documentation across projects.

Through DNASTAR’s partnership with SciNote, you can access these ELN capabilities directly from SeqBuilder Pro. This integration helps labs manage sequence data, vector catalogs, virtual cloning, and primer design projects in a more streamlined, connected workflow. Now, researchers can access the benefits of an electronic lab notebook from the software they use every day for molecular biology and sequence analysis—making it easier to stay organized, support compliance, and keep projects moving forward.

Tutorials

Watch one of our videos or check out one of our written tutorials to learn more about working with projects in SeqBuilder Pro. Any of the project types highlighted here can be uploaded to your SciNote ELN.

Virtual Cloning in SeqBuilder Pro

This overview shows how to do virtual cloning in SeqBuilder Pro using restriction enzyme cloning as an example. Our other cloning methods (Gateway, GeneArt, restriction enzyme, In-Fusion, TA, directional TOPO, Gibson) follow a similar procedure.

Multisite Gateway Pro Cloning in SeqBuilder Pro

Learn how to perform virtual MultiSite Gateway cloning in SeqBuilder Pro.

Primer Design in SeqBuilder Pro

In this video, we show you how to design and modify PCR primers in SeqBuilder Pro. Primers can be saved directly from SeqBuilder Pro into the SciNote Project Tree.

Preparing a Map for Presentation in SeqBuilder Pro

This video shows you how to rearrange and edit the annotations that are displayed on your plasmid map to prepare it for publication. Once you are satisfied with your plasmid map, you can save it as a PNG or PDF to your SciNote ELN.

FAQs

How can I connect SciNote ELN to SeqBuilder Pro?

Before connecting SeqBuilder Pro to your Electronic Lab Notebook, you will need a paid tier account from SciNote. Then, from the SeqBuilder Pro preferences dialog, you can configure your connection by entering your SciNote server URL and API key. You will also need to set up a project tree from SciNote before adding files from SeqBuilder Pro.

What types of files can be added to SciNote projects from SeqBuilder Pro?

SeqBuilder Pro supports adding SeqBuilder Pro projects (.sbp), primer files (.pri), DNA or protein sequences (.seq or .pro), GenBank files (.gbk), and FASTA files to SciNote projects. You may also add images, tables, and cloning projects directly from SeqBuilder Pro to SciNote.

How can I add a plasmid map from SeqBuilder Pro into SciNote?

You can add an image of your map from the Circular view or Linear view by right-clicking in in the view and choosing Send image as PNG or Send image as PDF to your selected SciNote sub-folder. You can also upload your plasmid map in SeqBuilder Pro format using the Attach a document from a file or ELN buttons on the SeqBuilder Pro toolbar.

How can I add vector sequences to SciNote?

You can add sequences, including vector sequences to SciNote by importing them from a file. Or if your sequences are open in SeqBuilder Pro, you can send them directly to SciNote using the File > Send sequence to > SciNote menu command.

How can I manage my projects in SciNote from SeqBuilder Pro?

Once content has been added to the SciNote project, it can be opened and viewed in SeqBuilder Pro by double-clicking on the item from the SciNote Project Tree. …
