Gel electrophoresis sometimes takes a lot of prep work and trial and error to determine the perfect percent agarose and set of molecular weight markers to resolve your DNA fragments. Other times, restriction digests produce such complicated restriction patterns that it can be difficult to determine if the restriction digest was complete. Can I simulate a virtual agarose gel that contains multiple DNA fragments and restriction enzyme combinations?

Yes. SeqBuilder Pro‘s electrophoresis gel simulation allows you to define the contents of each gel lane including sequences, enzymes, and primers.

Can the gel electrophoresis simulation account for agarose gel % and run time?

Yes. The Settings tab provides options to set the agarose % (0.8-4.0%), as well as the run time in order to accurately simulate your gel electrophoresis.

Does SeqBuilder Pro provide standard commercial molecular weight markers virtual gel electrophoresis?

Yes. The most common commercially available molecular weight markers are available in the Markers tab, and can easily be applied to the desired lane.

How do I create a custom molecular weight marker to use for my virtual gel electrophoresis?

In the Markers tab, click on the “+” icon in the lower left corner, then enter a name and a list of fragment sizes for your custom marker.

How do I export an image of my gel electrophoresis simulation?

To save your virtual gel electrophoresis as an image, first make sure it is the active view, then select Edit>Copy as Picture. This copies the image to your clipboard to be pasted into another application. When pasting the copied picture into a Microsoft Office application, we recommend using Edit>Paste Special and selecting Picture (Enhanced Metafile).
